Holiday Apartments and B&B

About Foldenhus

The building that houses Foldenhus Holiday Apartments and B&B is originally an old merchants yard.

The house facing Østergade was built in 1905 and behind it were stables and barns. The entrance to the courtyard was either through a gate from Østergade or from Skovvej where entrance to our parking area is today.

The stables and barns were demolished in 1954 and a three story building which includd a dental clinic on the first floor and flats in the rest of the building was erected.

The gate was closed, but the grocer’s shop continued, until it finally closed in 1972. About the same time the dentist moved to another location in Bogense.

Throughout the following years various businesses took over in the ground floor shop, and various people lived in the four flats in the building. For many years a famous Danish artist Lars Swane had his studio and art gallery in the building and later the local newspaper Område Avisen Nordfyn leased the entire ground floor.

Today the building is owned by Mrs. Birgit Folden, who has now established B&B and holiday apartments.

Also on the ground floor there is a double bedroom and a two-room holiday apartment, both with private bath and toilet and a fully equipped kitchen to share. On the second floor contains two double bedrooms and two bathrooms and a common kitchen and living room.

The Folden family (the owners) live on the first floor where you can enjoy a delicious home cooked breakfast in the dining room. There is a possibility of bicycle parking in a locked garage.

In the old yard, where you could formerly have seen much activity, with farmers, horses and carriages, is now a beautiful garden with an abundance of flowers. There are cosy corners where you can peacefully sit and enjoy the sun, plan the day, talk to other guests staying in Foldenhus, or may be put a sausage or a hamburger on the grill.

Østergade is Bogense’s old merchant street and from Foldenhus you can walk to all that the city offers:

Harbour, marina, beaches, wood, restaurants and cafés, shopping, and Hans Christian Andersen Golf Course, one of the best in Denmark. From Bogense it is 30 km to Odense and little more than one hour drive to famous Legoland in Billund.
